OUR LEADERS

We're building out a team that is essential for helping us achieve our mission. Starting with Kate Bohner, our Founder & CEO
Kate Bohner
Kate Bohner builds bespoke strategies into distinctive programs – blending insights, data and creativity to ensure that each client reaches its target audience with the right message, in the right medium, at the right time. Bohner Bespoke, the firm she founded in New York City in 2015, looks to operate as an extension of the client’s inner teams – personally driving strategy, planning and task execution down to the last detail, so they don’t have to.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988, Kate joined Lazard Frères & Co. in New York as a Junior Associate in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department, later working in the London office. After three years, she enrolled at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she won a Reader’s Digest Literary Foundation Fellowship Award. Upon graduation, Kate joined Forbes magazine. In four years at Forbes, Kate rose to Associate Editor & Column Editor – reinventing the then-flagging column “The Informer” while continuing to write covers, investigative pieces, and for the Small Business, Healthcare, Marketing sections.
In 1997, Kate was offered an opportunity to co-author with Donald Trump the best-selling Trump: The Art of the Comeback, which hit the New York Times (#3) and The Wall Street Journal (#1) best sellers’ list in the following weeks. Immediately after the book’s release, Bohner joined CNBC to launch its widely-publicized marquee primetime news show “Business Center” with Maria Bartiromo and Tyler Mathison, while continuing to write original material and broadcast Kate Bohner’s Power File on the midday show, “Power Lunch.”
In 2001, Kate returned to the financial sector, Bohner took a position as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at the Manhattan-based venture capital and advisory firm the Fort Hill Group. In 2001, Bohner joined two partners to co-found a medical technology start-up, Living Independently, Inc./QuietCare Systems (now GE’s Care Innovations), and to raise the seed capital where she served as Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Eight years later, GE Healthcare/Intel (a $500 million JV between the two parent companies) acquired the company in a cash and stock transaction.
In 2006, Bohner was recruited to return to her roots in media, and accepted venture funding from prominent Silicon Valley investors, to launch a web-based show, “Kate’s Take,” on KBTV. The show hit #1 on YouTube’s “News & Politics” Channel in 19 countries, by (and on,) Christmas Day. In 2008, while she was producing the show, Bohner received the 2008 PFP President’s Award for Special Achievement for her work in raising awareness about Vesicovaginal Fistula in Nigeria while spotlighting Physicians for Peace through video and internet content.
In 2010, Bohner took a break and enrolled in an intensive program to become a Certified Yoga Instructor. After earning her certifications in Costa Rica, Bohner began teaching and later, in New York City, co-founded, launched and served as National Director of a flourishing fitness program, FlyBarre with Flywheel Sports. Today, FlyBarre is offered in more than thirty cities on three continents.
In 2011, Bohner was called back to Wall Street, as Chief Administrative and Chief Marketing Officer for the largest U.S. equity execution services firm at the time, World Trade Financial Group. As the firm’s newly-appointed CMO, Bohner Clearpool Group, a trading software and execution innovator that comprises an agency broker-dealer and state-of-the-art electronic trading, routing, compliance and risk solution provider.
The following year, Bohner brought her 20+ years of experience to DMS Governance, the largest, private, independent fund governance firm in the world (it is now Waystone), where she served as Managing Director and Chief Communications, Research & Marketing Officer. After four years of contributing to the explosion of growth topping into $350 billion in assets in seven jurisdictions, Bohner left her full-time position and – stayed on for 12 months managing the transition and, with the Founder’s blessing – founded Bohner Bespoke, a boutique advisory firm where she remains founder and CEO today.
Over the years, Bohner’s passions have ranged from athletics, to travel, to meditation. At the University of Pennsylvania, she co-captained the women’s varsity lacrosse team, and in her senior year was an all-Ivy selection. In 1988, Kate was also selected to the 18-woman United States World Cup Lacrosse Squad. Two decades later, she found herself traveling to Thailand to live on a monastery and was ordained as a Buddhist nun. A few years after that, Kate found herself teaching yoga and running meditation workshops at a transitional living home for women. Today, understanding that balance is everything, Kate has moved Bohner Bespoke from Manhattan to Miami Beach & Wilmington, Delaware, her hometown where she gives to her community through contributing her expertise to a variety of social justice programs.
